Personally, this is by far my favourite album in Mos Def`s discography, but if you`re looking strictly for hip-hop, I`d look elsewhere. The album is a mix of many different genres including hard rock, hip-hop, blues, R&B, and soul/5().

The Ecstatic is Mos Def’s fourth solo-album, after his magnum opus Black On Both Sides (), the misunderstood The New Danger ()) and the disappointing True Magic (). While Black On Both Sides will forever be seen as Mos Def’s best and most defining work, The Ecstatic is just about as excellent – without a doubt the best album.
